The Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) is urging the government to collaborate with hotels to provide cold storage for excess crops which farmers have been struggling to offload.

JAS President Lenworth Fulton suggested the government could solicit the help of hotels in Montego Bay, Negril or other surrounding areas by renting their storage areas.

Some farmers have an abundance of produce due to hotels and restaurants either scaling down operations or closing their doors as a result of the coronavirus.

Mr. Fulton wants more farmers' markets established in St. Catherine which remains on lockdown until Friday.

He said this will increase the supply of fresh produce and provide new markets for farmers with excess supplies.
